Thank you to our volunteers

by Jean Haldane

A huge thank you is owed to our amazing volunteers for their contribution this summer – we just couldn’t have managed without them.

This year has been particularly challenging especially for Paul and his team in the kitchen.  Margaret O’Brien retired in June and sadly Teresa passed away in April, leaving two very big pairs of boots to fill and also creating a steep learning curve for those working to feed the groups of retreatants who came to us from all parts of the UK and Europe.

There are unsung (and unpaid) heroes working in many areas of Minsteracres, including those working with Liz on the Outreach Team, Ross and Katrina in the Peace Garden and Lya in the Walled Garden.  We have help with stats and DIY as well as with housekeeping and office support and our mantra is, “if you have a skill we can probably use it”. But of course the demand is always greatest in the dining room.  Volunteer recruitment is ongoing and, although generally slower in early spring and summer this year, we welcomed some newcomers to help swell the numbers but we still need more!

Volunteers aren’t expected to sign up to a given number of hours each month, with reliability being more important than over-commitment but we do offer reimbursement for expenses and the most stunning of places in which to work.
