Hundreds of people flooded to our bank holiday open house event on Monday.

We were blessed with remarkable weather, sandwiched as it was between two truly dreadful days of wind and rain.

The day got off to a brisk start when Derek and Liz Gallagher arrived with a coachload of fellow parishioners from Our Lady of Lourdes in Chopwell, but the kitchen had been preparing and were ready for the onslaught!

Having scheduled four one-hourly tours, we had to quickly reschedule and add another four to meet the demand. Along with regular tour guides Fr Jeroen and Anne Darlington, newcomers Bryony Gibson and Mary Quinn rose to the challenge and thrilled their audiences.

Sheer weight of numbers meant the cafe and the kitchen (fully staffed with four cooks) were kept at full pelt throughout.

Lots of people visited the displays in the retreat house showing the plans for the retreat house restoration, news of Minsteracres and its volunteers, and information and produce from Let’s Get growing who run a therapeutic garden project from the peace garden.
