Services at the parish of St Elizabeth

There will be no public services, including Sunday masses, at St Elizabeth’s, Minsteracres from Friday evening, 20 March 2020 until further notice.

This follows a decision taken by the Catholic Bishops of England and Wales to suspend public worship in churches in the light of the present Coronavirus situation. Please see the letter and guidance about the celebration of Mass published at

We will record mass at 08:30 every Sunday and post links to the recording as a news item from the main page of the website and from our social media accounts.

Our Heavenfield partnership parish, St Mary’s, Hexham, will be live-streaming 10am Sunday Mass on the internet, linked from the St Mary’s parish website at For full details go to

The parish of St. Elizabeth started in 1765 when the Silvertop family established the ‘Minsteracres Mission’ and a first priest was appointed with responsibility for the pastoral care of the family and the catholics in the surrounding area. Since then it developed to what it is now: a vital and vibrant faith community with active participation in the liturgy and other dimensions of parish life. The parishioners try to be a living sign of the Kingdom of God in this part of the world. There are a variety of groups for justice and peace, music and liturgy, and journey of faith. In 2015, the parishioners celebrated 250 years of faith and mission at St Elizabeths.
