“We prepare a day, and God sends the people,” says Shirley Mansfield, one of the organisers of the quiet days at Minsteracres.

“At the last day we had a mixture of about a dozen people, some regulars and some new. It was a really special day with a powerful reflection and a real sense of God among us.”

Shirley shares the preparation of the day with another lay contributor Christine Coxon and Sr Rosarie Spence, who established the quiet days some years ago.

We choose a theme and between us prepare a reflection and meditation, liturgy and sacred space. “Over the years the team has finessed the programme,” says Shirley. “The ideas spring from anywhere, and sometimes it just flows.

“It’s always wonderful to do, and to meet the people we share them with.”
