The fine weather this year offered great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the grounds. Regularly I noticed that people stopped and spent time in the peace garden. Some did this in order to pay a visit to the tree they donated in memory of a loved one. Trees planted in remembrance are a living reminder of those who went before us and in whose memory they have been dedicated. They keep alive the hope that life and love are stronger than death, a hope which is rooted in the resurrection of Christ.
Later this autumn in the liturgy of the church we will remember our beloved dead on the feast of All Saints and the commemoration of All Souls. In this year of remembrance we will have a special service of remembrance on Sunday 2 November with an evening prayer at 3pm in the chapel. Everyone is welcome but I hope that especially the donors of remembrance trees will participate.
