The Cain family from Consett are back again at Minsteracres for one of their regular family get-togethers, this time celebrating Lorraine’s 60th birthday.
We took the opportunity to present them with a family-sized cake to say thank you for the huge fundraising efforts they are making on behalf of the youth centre. Their recent pie and peas night earned a whopping £1000, and they aren’t finished yet. Fundraiser in chief Tonia Cain is hoping to host other events in Consett with the aim of raising enough to replace the rather dated shower units.
As if that wasn’t enough they have also refurbished six picnic tables, a wooden bench, a barbecue and a double seat for the garden and donated a new TV to the lounge.
For now though the fridge and freezer in the kitchen are full to bursting, the balloons and party poppers are poised, the ball pool is on the veranda, and the fancy dress for the musical theatre-themed party is all pressed ready to go.
“We love it here,” says Tonia, “It’s great to be able to help, and we’re already planning our next visit!”
